PREP Workshop Leader Training

The OMI currently offers training opportunities in the Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP). In order to provide potential workshop leaders with the best instruction with the most impact, OMI trainings are facilitated by PREP curriculum founders Drs. Scott Stanley and Howard Markman from the University of Denver and PREP Vice-President Natalie Jenkins.

Potential workshop leaders are required to attend three full days of instruction where they are equipped to provide marriage education workshops, while also trained in issues such as domestic violence and recognizing couples in need of more specialized services. In addition, workshop leaders are provided with on-site technical assistance related to recruiting, reporting, marketing, OMI communication and on-going training systems and other issues key to delivering workshops.

The OMI also provides Continuing Education credits at no cost, for a variety of licensures. Leaders can earn 18 hours of credit for: LBP, LMFT, LPC, CADC, LCSW and Licensed Psychologists.

Think you want to be a workshop leader? The OMI has found that the most effective workshop leaders are highly motivated, self-starters with good presentation skills and have access to couples through their work, church or other affiliation. We also encourage potential workshop leaders to identify a support network to assist in providing referrals and/or encouragement for participation in PREP workshops. Still interested? Are you interested but don't think you can deliver PREP workshops? Another way to get involved is to simply tell people about the PREP workshops available in your community. If you want to know more about the Service Delivery System in order to provide referrals, the OMI periodically offers an Overview and Referral Training, which provides referral tools and skills to clergy, front line Department of Human Services, Oklahoma State Department of Health, Mental Health and Substance Abuse, Domestic Violence and other professionals or citizens like you. However, this training is not required for you to get the word out about PREP workshops - simply tell your friends, family, co-workers about the opportunities provided by the OMI!
